Newburgh station 'a Govt spending priority' say Lib Dems
January 2025

Willie Rennie, MSP for NE Fife.
Newburgh's bid to reconnect to the railway received a boost this week when Willie Rennie, Lib Dem MSP for NE Fife, confirmed that a new Newburgh Station will be given high priority in this year's Scottish budget.
In a letter to Rennie and Lib Democrat Leader Alex Cole-Hamilton, Shona Robison, Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Local Government welcome the ongoing support given to the Government by the Liberal Democrats in deciding the 2025 budget. Potential spend areas being discussed include Capital Infrastructure projects.
The Liberal Democrats and the Scottish Green Party want a new Newburgh Train station included.
Robison stated that following the UK spending review, her Government will consider a range of projects across Scotland.

As part of the cross-party discussion, Robison confirmed that the Newburgh station project will be given 'careful consideration' assuming the Liberal Democrats support the Government's final budget proposal.

Willie Rennie states that his party have supported Newburgh getting a new station for a while and are actively promoting the project to be included in this year's budget. It should be given a 'high priority', they state.

Robison suggested that what projects will be included in the agreed budget would be decided by there being sufficient funds and the outcome of final negotiations between all the parties.
